The Full Armor of God

14 May

These last few weeks the world received a clear message of concern from a true leader as she passed on to eternity. At her funeral Margret Thatcher had her granddaughter read Ephesians 6: 10-18, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”

This message given, on the world stage caused many to look in their bibles for those words and to ponder.

God gives us strength in those words and implores us to explore further that we can know what it is that He says. So many people would put themselves equal to God by going to His word to find validation for their beliefs, and others turn to other men for their validation. But the early church we are told searched the scriptures daily (Acts 17:11) “..and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

The mindset of a Christian then is shown here how that the search is to receive from God, not to validate oneself. This receiving then gives opportunity for believers to quench the fiery darts of the wicked. By this action of dwelling in His word we are able to stand up and without any doubt know that “this is what God says”.

Do not be fooled by the voice of the devil that says, “Yeah has God Said?”

By reading in His word (truth)and making it your life God gives clarity to understand righteousness to cover your heart and that clarity gives self assurance to shod your feet and that self assurance give conviction, and that conviction is faith which we hold up to quench those fiery darts. God’s word being the whole armour, “that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,” the Goodnews of all men’s sins being washed clean!

Praise be to God for his mercy!
